Teacher’s Support Programme
Teacher are experienced and go through various teaching workshops to improve and enhance their techniques and skills and also to upgrade themselves according to the requirement of the new syllabus. They learn how to plan, implement, assess and evaluate a curriculum that is highly appropriate for children of a particular age group. They are supported by coordinators, who help them to further develop their teaching skills, monitor their performance, give them continuous guidance and work on bridging the communication gap between parents, teachers and students. The coordinator is the first link between parents and the school management.
Integrated Learning
Integrated studies is the universal concept. It imparts a skill oriented approach to learning, rather than one, which is restricted to books. It permits innovation and creativity for the teachers, while for the students it brings an opportunity to familiarize with correlative learning and its application as a skill. It is an innovation in education which rectifies the old concept of learning. It believes that fragmented knowledge makes it difficult for the child to see the relevance of what he learns in one subject to the solution of a problem in another subject.
Integrated learning is usually applied in relation to the curriculum. It is commonly introduced in the primary school as a thematic approach with life themes, such as music, water and travel. It is also applied in the integrated class activities.
GSIS makes special efforts to select curriculum which is open to innovation and permits integration without any barriers. Teachers are trained to apply integrated teaching skills in their daily lesson plans
Stimulating Classroom Environment
Spacious classrooms are well decorated to match the mood of the students and also to correspond with the scheme of studies. After every four to six week, the classroom display boards are changed to put up stimulating teaching aids.
Teaching lessons are well supported by skill oriented activities. Integrating language and art, social sciences and projects work, drama and languages is the specialty of GSIS.
This kind of an environment helps the development of skills, clears the concepts and enhances the ability of students. It also benefits equally the above average and the average students.
We have mixed ability groups. Activities are designed in such a way that the students enjoy to work independently, in pairs or in groups. By doing this a healthy and competitive working environment is created. Students develop qualities such as sharing, helping, cooperating and leadership.
Integrated Class Activities
Integrated class activities are held regularly during the academic year. Cross curricular concepts are presented in form of performing arts. Dialogues, stage settings, colors, simple costumes, music and actions create a vivid picture in the young minds. This is the most effective way to clear the understanding of the children and develop their thinking skills. Actual lesson of the books are picked up to prepare these presentations. Along with learning, children develop tremendous confidence to perform in a gathering. Teacher make sure that each and every child of the class participates in these activities.
Sports
With fitness and healthy living becoming key components of our daily life, GSIS provides its students a wide range of sports and exercise. Attired smartly in the jackets of their house colors, the Movers P.T show always enthralls the audience on the occasion of the annual sports day.
The four houses, Dragons in Red, Sharks in Blue, Lions in Yellow and Eagles in Gray, compete eagerly to score maximum points during the sports week which takes place in the first term of the academic session.
PE periods are allocated in the regular time table. Services of Mr Ali Akhter, a trained physical instructor are utilized to train the students. During the sports week various competitions are held e.g 50 meter races, potato race, sack race, relay race etc. For the final competitions students are taken to the tracks of the Sports Complex, Islamabad. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are given to the winners.
Excursion Trips & Art Exhibitions
Special arrangements are made for the educational and recreational visits of the students. Every session, each class visits some picnic spots or an informative venue. It broadens the vision of students, gives them confidence and a sense of responsibility.
Art exhibition is a special occasion for the students of this levels. The branch head distributes different themes to the classes, and then the teachers integrate those items with the art work. Eventually some master pieces are created. The whole school is turned into an art gallery.
